In Matthew 23:12 Jesus says, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
If anyone had reason to boast and accept glory for himself, it was certainly Jesus.
But instead, “though he was in the form of God, [he] did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:6–8)
1 Peter 5:5–6 says, “Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.”
Are there areas in your life where you have been grasping glory for yourself? Insisting on your own righteousness instead of humbly relying on His? (Raising my hand here!)
May Jesus be the ultimate example for how we can live humbly, with the attitude of a servant, laying down our lives for His eternal glory.
Sincerely,
Morgan
